From The Ashes

This is what's left.

You can read about the fire and see more photos at KATU news. Nicole's husband, Ethan, spoke to Fox 12 news about the fire - there's a video clip here. They asked Nicole, but she just couldn't bring herself to talk about what happened. I can't blame her.

And that penny countertop everyone loved so much went from this...

To this.

Everything is either burnt or covered in soot and ash and dirt. Nothing is salvageable. And because things weren't bad enough, there's stalling from the insurance company. First they said they would only cover 50% and now they're looking for a loophole.

But amidst all this destruction and uncertainty, we've seen a tremendous outpouring of love and support from friends, neighbors and perfect strangers. Portland is that kind of city, Beaumont Village is that kind of neighborhood.

The next few days will bring more information and we'll find out if the road back will be merely difficult or monumental.

Either way, she will rebuild and we will help her.

Nicole I have watched you on your buying trips spend days hand selecting each item for your customers with such care.

  3. Oh my goodness, my heart aches for your friend. I just now saw the penny countertop that you linked to my link party last September and I LOVE it but I am so sad to see it gone- I hope they can get everything squared away with the insurance soon. What a sad, sad, mess.
